THe deeper meaning in this book is that when you have faith it doesn't mean life is handed out to you on a silver platter, but it does make things easier to get through and it helps people be closer to God.
Response to Ali's comment: I agree with Ali in the fact that this story shows that God is always with you in any situation. Whether it be a good situation or bad God is always with you and will always help you through your struggles.
My interpretation of this book on a deeper level is that their is always going to be a relationship between God and man. But it is are choice on whether we chose to have a good relationship or a bad one.
On a deeper level this book shows that forgiveness can always heal the bond between two people, no mater what has happened between them.
